Hey I've got the consitency to come back again, go me.
Projects
Uh website-wise I added a very
temporary go home button on the logs page cause it felt weird without
one. I also did some site design research (by which I mean I stalked
other people's sites). Eh its honestly easier to fool about with the
HTML myself than deal with the markdown translator.

Pokémon Crystal
So turns out that getting through victory road takes only like ten
minutes and a rival fight - I'm a big fan. Though I will need to head
back in to hunt down that earthquake TM to help Boromir flatten those
rock and steel types (and everything else lets be honest)
Island
I finally finished the book, and I must say the ending
was entirely not what I was expecting, and its so much the better for
it. Huxley just wraps the book up beautifully. I'm gonna miss Pala.
Endnote: now that I've finished a book I should get working on a
reviews page
This is my first ever log entry, but the idea came to me while debating whether to bother opening backloggd again to update my game logs for today, and honestly, starting up an entire personal website seemed like a less draining task.
I'm not totally sure yet what I want to write in these, other than a kind of general update on how I'm doing on my voyage through the cosmos - and especially how my various projects are doing, and my daily thoughts on the media I'm consuming.
Projects
Today I started working on building my
own website - a process which was an hour of trying to choose a
username, before realising that just "theAlmanac" was just
sitting around unused, and then an hour of actual work. I've
decided not to bother with the actual visual design for a while,
because that's something that, from my personal experience, causes
me to spiral into font choices, colour palettes, layouts... It just
gets a bit much, and what with exams in less than a week, I just
can't. Instead I have decided to make the most bare-bones,
CSS-free site that I can just dump text onto. Once summer comes maybe
I'll restart my web dev course and start pimping it up.
I was worried about how I would turn all my Obsidian notes, or even
this log, which I wrote in obsidian because I think I'd get an
anueurism trying to write all this in VS Code, into HTML from markdown
- figured I'd just have to convert it all myself manually, but hey
I've just found a markdown to HTML converter, so hopefully that
works (https://markdowntohtml.com)
EDIT: It worked pretty well, but it doesn't seem to understand line
breaks

Pokémon Crystal
I've finally made it out of Johto and into Kanto - ready to grind
the pokémon league into a fine paste. I've had to add the red
gyarados to the team as a watefall HM mule because I really can't
give Ëarendil (Lanturn) a third water move. Today I've only made
it as far as the entrance of Victory Road, and I immediately got
flashbacks to the long, boring slog through from RBY or XY - seeing as
I hopped onto the Pokétrain with Sw/Sh, victory road has been a joyous
new experience for me as I play through all of the older games.
I'm also wondering when the apparently crazy level curve comes in.
Surely the Elite four isn't more than like level 40 right?
Super Mario Bros. 3
In a bout of extreme study procrastination I decided to start playing
this game, with the idea of playing a level a day, getting through it
slowly, so that it doesn't screw up the study schedule. About 45
minutes later, I had beaten the entirety of world 1, which took a
frankly ludicrous number of game overs on my part.
